Australian-UK partnership aims to transform maritime electric power

Marine charging specialist Seavolt and electric drive manufacturer RAD Propulsion have announced a partnership to deliver electric propulsion solutions across Australia and the Pacific region. The collaboration will serve boat manufacturers, marinas, ports, sporting organizations, and government agencies.

Seavolt, which operates charging networks in Australia and Singapore, provides marine-grade chargers ranging from 7kW to 360kW, supported by micro-grid solar power systems. These chargers can replenish workboat batteries in minutes rather than hours using renewable electricity.

UK-based RAD Propulsion contributes its RAD 40 electric drive system to the partnership. The system features drive-by-wire control, GPS, Wi-Fi, GSM, and NMEA connectivity, along with the RADTag intelligent key system.

“We’re thrilled to collaborate with Seavolt to bring sustainable and high-performance solutions to Australia and the Pacific,” said Dan Hook, CEO of RAD Propulsion. “This partnership perfectly aligns with our mission to cut carbon emissions in the maritime industry by making electric propulsion smarter, cleaner, and more accessible.”
Highlighting the market demand driving the partnership, Seavolt CEO Chris Cudlipp said, “We constantly get enquiries from customers who want to electrify their fleets of outboard-powered boats. Seavolt can provide a complete charging solution but no one in the market was offering plug-and-play electric power replacement that supported ultra-fast charging. RAD Propulsion delivers that.”

The partnership combines Seavolt’s charging infrastructure expertise with RAD Propulsion’s drive technology, creating a comprehensive package for maritime electrification. This includes engines, batteries, and charging systems, aimed at both retrofitting existing vessels and powering new builds.

The collaboration marks a significant step in the region’s maritime sustainability efforts, offering organizations a streamlined path to fleet electrification.
