Battery development software company About:Energy has announced growth across its operations, expanding its commercial battery database and increasing staff numbers as demand for simulation-based battery development grows.
The company’s Voltt database now includes over 30 battery cells from manufacturers including LG, Samsung, Molicel, Amprius and Inobat, covering various formats and chemistries. The expanded library allows customers to evaluate cell selection, thermal management strategies, and charging protocols during early design phases.
About:Energy has tested over 500 commercial cells at its London facility, conducting 12-month degradation programs to support its simulation models. The company collects its own testing data rather than using manufacturer specifications, according to company statements.
The team has grown by more than 50 percent with recent hires including Lorenzo Bergamaschi as Founder’s Associate, previously CTO at Allye, Emily Anshaw as Head of People Operations from Transition Zero, Jack Evans as Lead Test Engineer from Northvolt, and Miles Robertson as Staff Applications Engineer, formerly of McLaren and Lilium.
“We’re seeing momentum as companies recognise the value of simulation-based battery development,” said Gavin White, co-founder and CEO. “Our platform helps engineers answer critical questions before investing in hardware – whether testing motorsports drive cycles, thermal models for eVTOL missions, or predicting cycle life for drones.”
The company serves customers across space, defense, aviation, automotive and motorsport sectors, with most using the platform for early design decisions around cell selection, thermal management, and charging strategies before hardware development.
Co-founder Kieran O’Regan emphasized the importance of the London testing facility. “It gives us complete control over how we test and validate cells, enabling us to meet customer timelines far more reliably,” he said. “For companies pursuing aircraft certification or working to urgent defence timelines, access to high-quality data quickly is often the key blocker.”
About:Energy continues developing relationships with US and European cell manufacturers, particularly where supply chain security and local sourcing are considerations. The company’s advisory board includes Thierry Bolloré, former CEO of Jaguar Land Rover and Renault, and Tudor Brown, co-founder and former president of ARM Holdings.
The growth comes as the battery industry faces increasing demand for faster development cycles and more accurate performance predictions across applications from electric vehicles to aerospace systems.
