All electric Jaguar E-type to enter production

Jaguar Classic has confirmed that the all-electric E-Type, which debuted as the E-Type Zero concept in 2017, will enter production following positive reaction.

The zero-emissions vehicle, which combines Jaguar Classic’s restoration expertise with the latest JLR electrification technology from the I-Pace, will have an electric powertrain that has been designed with similar weight and dimensions to the E-Type’s original petrol engine and transmission.

Jaguar Classics is targeting a vehicle range in excess of 170 miles for the production version, which will see first deliveries from summer 2020. While more technical specifications will be delivered in due course, the concept vehicle is powered by a 40kWh battery, with a recharge time of between six and seven hours depending on source.

You can read more about the concept vehicle in the January 2018 issue of Electric & Hybrid Vehicle Technology International.

The electric motor will be located behind the battery pack, in place of the original vehicle’s gearbox.

Jaguar Classics will also offer an EV conversion service for owners of existing E-Types – a process which will, the OEM claims, be fully reversible.

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the positive reaction to the Jaguar E-Type Zero concept,” says Jaguar Land Rover Classic director Tim Hannig. “Future-proofing the enjoyment of classic car ownership is a major stepping stone for Jaguar Classic.

“E-Type Zero showcases the incredible heritage of the E-Type, and the expertise and craftsmanship at Classic Works, while demonstrating Jaguar Land Rover’s dedication to creating zero emission vehicles across every part of the business, including Jaguar Classic.”
