Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance invests in electric vehicle technology company

Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance

Alliance Ventures, which is the venture capital arm of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance, has invested The Mobility House, a technology company that provides a platform for integrating vehicle batteries into power grids using charging, energy and storage solutions.

When Alliance Ventures was established in 2018 it pledged to invest up to US$1bn over five years to support innovation. So far 11 investments have been made and some of that pot (the amount of which has not been disclosed) has been spent on The Mobility Company, a company that has the goal of creating a zero-emission energy and mobility future.

“Alliance Ventures aims to provide the right ecosystem of open innovation to ensure Alliance member companies deliver mobility for tomorrow,” said François Dossa, Alliance Global vice president for ventures and open innovation and chairman of Alliance Ventures. “The Mobility House’s expertise in e-mobility and energy transition will contribute to the Alliance commitment to zero-emission vehicles and to the achievement of our vision: shaping the future of mobility.”

The global company that has sites in Munich, Zurich and Sunnyvale in California, has previously worked with the Alliance after it collaborated with Nissan to create a Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) project in Hagen, Germany, using Nissan Leaf batteries.

Cooperating with Groupe Renault, The Mobility House will market the biggest stationary energy storage systems made with electric vehicle batteries in Europe and contribute through its smart energy platform to make the Portuguese island of Porto Santo, near Madeira, the first “smart island” in the world.
