Turntide’s Gen 5 battery offers OEMs faster market entry with built-in safety standards

The high energy density and compact size provide flexibility and scalability across EV and hybrid vehicle applications.

Turntide Technologies has announced the availability of its EU-compliant Gen 5 NMC modular battery system, targeting OEMs seeking faster integration of EV components while meeting strict regulatory requirements.

The Alpharetta, Georgia-based company, which specializes in electric motors, power electronics and energy storage, designed the battery to address compliance challenges as global battery demand is projected to quadruple by 2030. New European Union battery regulations now require manufacturers to meet standards for durability, thermal propagation, fire safety, recycling and product transparency.

“OEMs are under pressure to accelerate the development and deployment of electric vehicles,” said Steve Hornyak, CEO of Turntide. “Our regulation-ready Gen 5 battery is designed for immediate integration, helping OEMs accelerate their path to production in a market that demands safety, transparency, and reliability at every stage of the battery lifecycle.”

The modular battery system offers configurations starting at 4.5 kWh with 100 Ah capacity or 6.8 kWh with 150 Ah capacity. Multiple battery packs can be connected, with up to 18 total units and a maximum of nine in series, allowing custom voltage and capacity configurations. The system meets CE, UN38.3 and ECE-R100.3 international safety standards.

Turntide positions the Gen 5 as suitable for construction, industrial, autonomous guided vehicles, agriculture and military applications due to its high energy density and compact design. The battery features secure mounting capability in three axes and includes a separate battery control unit for installation flexibility and serviceability.

The company reports the battery delivers more than 3,000 cycles with 85% capacity retention and includes an IP66-rated weatherproof aluminum case for environmental protection.

The Gen 5 battery launch follows Turntide’s April introduction of the AF430S axial flux motor, which the company marketed for EVs, construction equipment, military, marine and high-speed transportation applications. Together, these products represent Turntide’s strategy to provide integrated electrification solutions without requiring major vehicle redesigns.
