Nissan electrifies large van segment with all-new Interstar-e

The Interstar-e has a 100% electric powertrain and up to 285 miles of driving range.

In a major push towards electrifying its commercial vehicle lineup, Nissan has introduced the all-new Interstar-e, the brand’s first fully electric large van. The Interstar-e will complement the existing diesel-powered Interstar models, providing eco-conscious businesses with a zero-emissions option that retains the capability and versatility that has made the Interstar a popular choice.

The Interstar-e will be available with two battery pack options – a 40kWh version for urban delivery use, and an 87kWh long-range model. The 87kWh variant can recharge from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes using a 130kW DC fast charger, delivering up to 157 miles of range. For overnight or depot charging, the 87kWh Interstar-e can utilize a standard 22kW AC charging system, while the 40kWh model uses an 11kW AC unit.

Despite its electric powertrain, the Interstar-e retains the spaciousness and versatility that customers have come to expect from Nissan’s large van. With a cargo volume up to 14.8m3 and a maximum payload of 1.6 tonnes, the Interstar-e can handle a wide variety of business needs, from urban deliveries to heavier goods transport. The van is also capable of towing up to 2.5 tonnes.

In addition to the zero-emission electric model, the revamped Interstar range will continue to offer efficient diesel engines, providing customers flexibility to choose the powertrain that best suits their requirements. The diesel versions achieve fuel economy as low as 7.4 l/100km, aided by a new 9-speed automatic transmission option.

Regardless of powertrain, the Interstar boasts class-leading aerodynamics, with a 20% improvement in drag coefficient over the previous generation. This helps maximize range and efficiency, whether running on electricity or diesel. The Interstar’s manoeuvrability has also been enhanced, with a reduced turning diameter of up to 1.2m compared to earlier models.

Inside, the Interstar features a completely redesigned cabin, delivering improved comfort, convenience and technology. An additional 135 liters of storage space is available, and the van can be equipped with the latest connectivity features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Safety has also been prioritized, with the Interstar earning a ‘Platinum’ rating in the EuroNCAP safety assessments. Forward emergency braking, lane keep assist, and traffic sign recognition are among the advanced driver assistance systems offered.

With the introduction of the all-new Interstar-e, Nissan is providing a compelling zero-emission solution to European businesses seeking a large, capable and practical commercial vehicle. Combined with the continued availability of efficient diesel variants, the revamped Interstar range caters to a wide spectrum of customer requirements.
