Nissan revamps lineup with new EVs and hybrid technologies

New and refreshed models expand segment coverage and reinvigorate line-up

Nissan is set to accelerate its global EV expansion with a series of electrified vehicles and powertrain technologies across multiple markets. The automaker plans to introduce several new electric and hybrid models, targeting key regions including Europe, North America, Japan, and emerging markets.

In Europe, Nissan will launch three significant electrified models in 2025. These include an all-new electric Micra city car, designed by Nissan Design Europe in London and built in collaboration with Renault, and a third-generation Leaf EV to be manufactured at the company’s Sunderland plant in the UK. The Qashqai crossover will also receive an updated e-Power hybrid technology.

The new Micra EV will offer two battery options: 40 and 52 kWh, providing a maximum range of over 248 miles. The Leaf, reimagined as a more spacious crossover, will sit on Nissan’s modular CMF-EV platform and feature improvements in aerodynamics and driving performance.

Nissan’s next-generation e-Power hybrid system represents another significant development. The technology, which uses a small gasoline engine and lithium-ion battery to power an electric motor, is targeted to provide up to 15% improvement in fuel economy at high speeds, with reduced emissions and enhanced refinement.
In North America, Nissan plans to introduce the all-new Leaf as its first market, alongside the brand’s first plug-in hybrid Rogue. The company will also launch a new generation Sentra and refresh its Pathfinder SUV.

Other regional highlights include expanding the X-Trail e-Power in Latin America, introducing a new minivan in Japan, and launching the Magnite compact SUV in selected African markets.
David Moss, Senior Vice President of Research and Development for the AMIEO region, emphasized the company’s focus on providing diverse powertrain options. “We’ve made significant steps with our technologies,” he said. “The updates to e-Power will make it even more efficient and refined, offering an experience closer to a pure electric vehicle.”

Nissan’s strategy reflects a broader commitment to electrification and meeting diverse customer preferences across global markets.
