Osprey Charging announces plans for Scotland’s largest ultra-rapid EV charging hub

The 16-charger hub will be located opposite the Phoenix Retail Park on the A737.

Osprey Charging, one of the UK’s leading EV charging networks, has unveiled plans to establish a new ultra-fast 16-charger hub in Paisley, which will be the largest public ultra-rapid charging hub in Scotland once completed. The company has acquired a freehold site in Paisley and received planning permission to install the 16 300kW public charge points.

Strategically located near the Phoenix Retail Park and just off the A737, a short drive from the busy M8 motorway, the new hub will offer rapid, reliable, and high-quality EV charging services. This key location will cater to Scotland’s EV drivers, providing essential infrastructure on a crucial route.

This Paisley hub represents Osprey Charging’s second freehold site acquisition, following the successful launch of the award-winning Salmon’s Leap hub in Devon last year. By owning the land, Osprey can ensure the hub’s design meets its standards for simplicity, convenience, safety, and accessibility. The company plans to announce additional site acquisitions throughout the summer.

The hub’s location, adjacent to the Showcase Cinema and north of McDonald’s drive-thru, offers drivers numerous amenities while they recharge their EVs. The presence of various on-site shops will also provide activities for drivers during their wait.

“We’re hugely excited to have completed the purchase of the land for our forthcoming 16-charger ultra-rapid hub in Paisley, which marks our second freehold site in the UK,” said Ian Johnston, CEO of Osprey Charging. “The purchase of freehold sites is an important strategy for Osprey, as it enables us to build larger public charging locations with greater flexibility over their design. This hub will be crucial in supporting the uptake of EVs in Scotland as well as in meeting growing demand for reliable, accessible, and high-quality EV charging across the UK.”

Osprey Charging has successfully delivered nine high-powered hubs across various UK locations in 2024. The new Paisley hub is a significant milestone in their expanding network, aiming to complete 30 hubs by the end of the year. Osprey’s network now includes over 1,000 rapid and ultra-rapid chargers, achieving a 99% reliability rate and earning recognition as a ‘Driver Recommended Network’ by Zap Map for the fourth consecutive time.
