The Peugeot E-T16 Concept is a three-motor electric hatchback developed with Peugeot Sport that previews the next-generation E-208. It produces 816hp, accelerates from 0-100km/h in 2.5 seconds, uses an 800V architecture with an 85kWh side-cooled battery and steer-by-wire steering, and offers up to 400km WLTP range.
Peugeot has revealed the E-T16 Concept, a three-motor electric hatchback developed with its Peugeot Sport division. It produces 816hp and previews the design and cockpit of the next-generation E-208. The company says the concept, which accelerates from 0-100km/h in 2.5 seconds and from 0-300km/h in 16 seconds, is the most powerful Peugeot to date.
One motor is mounted at the front and two at the rear. A torque vectoring system distributes torque in real time between the two rear wheels and between the front and rear axles, depending on available grip. Peugeot quotes a power-to-weight ratio of less than 2kg per horsepower.
To prevent derating, where output is reduced to avoid overheating, Peugeot Sport has developed a “Side Cooling” system derived from racing. It cools the battery cells through their side walls rather than through their base, as in conventional systems. According to Peugeot, the concept can complete three laps of the Nürburgring Nordschleife, more than 60km, in Performance mode without power limitation.
The car uses an 800V architecture and an 85kWh battery with lithium nickel manganese chemistry. It has a range of up to 400km on the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP) combined cycle, and charges from 10% to 80% in under 15 minutes.
Three driving modes adjust power delivery, torque split and suspension settings, including a Track mode, and a fourth mode can be configured by the driver. Braking uses 380mm discs at all four wheels and a vertically mounted hydraulic handbrake. Michelin tires measure 275mm wide at the front and 315mm at the rear.
The concept uses Peugeot’s Hypersquare steering control with steer-by-wire, here calibrated for performance driving. Its design draws on the steering wheel of the Peugeot 9X8 race car that competes in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). For the first time, Hypersquare includes a configurable central display showing speed and lap times. This display occupies the space normally used for the airbag, which the concept omits because it uses four-point harnesses. A 21in curved panoramic display combines the head-up instrument display and central touchscreen in a new generation of the brand’s i-Cockpit layout.
“E-T16 CONCEPT reinterprets the lines of the future PEUGEOT E-208, pushing every proportion to the extreme. A radical design that celebrates our heritage and transforms power and sportiness into a true design language,” says Matthias Hossann, design director at Peugeot.
The concept introduces Peugeot’s Feline Future design language, including a horizontal three-bar light signature front and rear. Aerodynamic features include a rear diffuser with two adjustable blades and a large rear wing. As on the 205 T16, the entire rear body section tilts open to expose the two rear motors, suspension components and a tubular roll cage. The charging port sits where the 205 T16 had its engine air intake.
Inside, the carbon-fiber bucket seats use PELINOVA leather, made from recycled, untanned offcuts from the leather goods industry.
The concept marks the 40th anniversary of the 205 T16’s back-to-back World Rally Championship (WRC) titles in 1985 and 1986.
