A Polestar 3 EV has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest journey by an electric SUV on a single charge, covering 581.3 miles in an official attempt that lasted nearly 23 hours.
The production-standard Long Range Single Motor variant exceeded its published WLTP range figure of 438 miles by more than 140 miles during the record attempt, which was conducted by professional efficiency drivers Sam Clarke, Kevin Booker and Richard Parker. The vehicle achieved an efficiency rating of 19.5 kWh per 100 miles during the journey.
Guinness World Records adjudicator Paulina Sapinska verified the attempt, with Webfleet providing independently documented video footage, odometer readings, GPS data, and battery level information. The SUV received no modifications and used standard 20-inch wheels with Michelin Sport 4 EV tyres.
The 22-hour and 57-minute journey took place in challenging conditions including rain and standing water. The three drivers alternated every three hours to maintain alertness throughout the attempt. The vehicle reached its official WLTP range with 20 percent battery capacity remaining and continued for an additional eight miles after the display showed zero percent charge.
“While Kevin, Sam and Richard pushed the Polestar 3 to the boundaries of its range capability, it goes to show how battery range has improved exponentially over the past few years,” said Matt Galvin, Polestar UK Managing Director. “For a large luxury SUV to go way beyond a London to Edinburgh distance is truly impressive.”
Galvin noted that the achievement follows the Polestar 3 Long Range Dual Motor’s victory in Norway’s El Prix winter range test earlier this year, where it outperformed 23 other electric vehicles. He added that the vehicle’s rapid charging capability of up to 250kW, allowing a 10-80 percent charge in 30 minutes, demonstrates that concerns about EV range limitations are outdated.
Driver Sam Clarke commented on the increasing difficulty of setting efficiency records. “Since we first started setting records, we have noticed how much more driving it is taking to achieve them,” he said. “I am pleased to be setting the first electric SUV journey record, and to do it in such a capable EV like the Polestar 3 has been a real pleasure.”
The AA provided safety support throughout the attempt to assist if the vehicle had stopped away from charging infrastructure when the battery was depleted.
