Renault has debuted its 4 Savane 4×4 Concept vehicle at the Roland-Garros French Open tennis tournament. The concept, designed for what Renault calls the modern “gentleman explorer,” revives the Savane nameplate that first appeared in the 1950s and later adorned adventure-ready Renault 4 models in 1986.
The electric concept stands 15mm higher than the standard Renault 4 E-Tech and features Goodyear UltraGrip Performance+ 225/55 tires on 18-inch ‘Savane’ wheels. Track width has been increased by 10mm on each side to improve stability on rough terrain.
Most significantly, the vehicle incorporates a second electric motor on the rear axle, creating a permanent all-wheel drive system. According to Renault, this configuration demonstrates the versatility of their AmpR Small platform to support dual-motor electric vehicles in the B-segment.
The concept features Jade Green bodywork complemented by gloss black bumpers and wheel arches. Its roof incorporates a pixel-patterned fabric for a camouflage effect. Standard bumper stops have been replaced with 3D-printed components with shock-absorbing properties. ‘4Savane’ badging appears on the vehicle’s side, with ‘4×4’ identification on the tailgate.
The interior features Deep Brown textile seats with a quilted pattern of stylized number 4s on the backrest. A houndstooth pattern accents the lateral reinforcements. The dashboard, wrapped in matching Deep Brown textile, features horizontal stitching extending to the door panels and a backlit 4Savane logo.
“True to the spirit of exploration of the Renault 4 Savane from the 1960s, the Renault 4 Savane 4×4 Concept show car pushes the adventurous side of the Renault 4 E-Tech electric to the maximum,” said Sandeep Bhambra, Chief Designer Advanced at Ampere & Renault. “Its increased ground clearance and widened tracks are combined with a permanently active all-wheel drive system to allow it to tackle the most rugged terrains.”
The concept appeared alongside Renault’s 87% electrified vehicle fleet serving the tournament, which includes the Scenic E-Tech electric, Rafale hybrid, and Renault 5 E-Tech electric Roland-Garros special series.
