Renault has introduced the all-electric Renault 4 E-Tech, reviving the iconic model that sold over 8.1 million units worldwide between 1961 and 1992. The new vehicle joins Renault’s expanding electric lineup alongside the Renault 5, Megane, and Scenic E-Tech models, with a Twingo variant planned for 2026.

The Renault 4 E-Tech aims to appeal to a broader audience than the urban-focused Renault 5 E-Tech, targeting young families with versatility as its key selling point. The vehicle features 420 liters of boot space, a low load sill, ingenious storage compartments, a folding rear bench, and a flat-folding passenger seat – a first for a Renault electric vehicle.

Built on the dedicated AmpR Small platform shared with the Renault 5 E-Tech, the vehicle offers increased ground clearance and an Extended Grip traction control system for varied terrain. It can tow up to 750 kg and includes driving aids such as Active Driver Assist for Level 2 autonomous driving.

The Renault 4 E-Tech comes with an 11 kW AC charger for everyday use and an 80 or 100 kW DC charger for longer journeys. The AC charger is bidirectional, enabling vehicle-to-load and vehicle-to-grid functions through Mobilize services.

As part of Renault Group’s European manufacturing commitment, the vehicle is assembled at Maubeuge, with the motor produced at Cléon and the battery pack in Ruitz. Three-quarters of suppliers are located within 300 km of the ElectriCity complex, creating a short supply chain.

The model aligns with Renault’s circular economy goals, with an 88.6% recyclability rate and inclusion of 26.4% of materials from the circular economy.

“With Renault 4 E-Tech electric, Renault is pursuing its efforts to bring electric vehicles into the mainstream in Europe,” said Fabrice Cambolive, CEO of the Renault brand. “It’s a mainstream electric car in tune with its times, packed with useful technologies for driving and comfort.”
