Iveco eDaily enters service with dynamic wireless charging on Italian motorway

Iveco eDaily with dynamic and static wireless charging enters service on A35 Brebemi motorway in Italy.

Iveco has deployed the first road-ready eDaily with integrated dynamic and static wireless charging on Italy’s A35 Brebemi motorway. The electric light commercial vehicle charges inductively while driving and when stationary, following nearly a year of testing at the Arena del Futuro site.

Turin-based Iveco has put what it says is the first road-ready electric light commercial vehicle equipped with both dynamic and static wireless charging into service on an Italian motorway.

The eDaily, in 42C Crew Van configuration with a six-seat cab, is now operating on the A35 Brebemi highway connecting Brescia and Milan. It has been delivered to Brebemi’s Argentea fleet on a 36-month GATE lease and will be used for personnel operations along the route.

Unlike standard-production eDaily vehicles, this unit integrates an inductive charging system developed to interface with Brebemi’s dedicated infrastructure, enabling both dynamic wireless power transfer (DWPT) while driving and static wireless charging when stationary.

The deployment follows almost a year of testing at Brebemi’s Arena del Futuro site, an open-air laboratory on the A35 that has attracted interest from manufacturers, industrial operators, and institutions. Brebemi, part of the Aleatica group, has been developing wireless charging infrastructure for several years through its start-up VoltAtire.

“After nearly a year of testing wireless charging in both static and dynamic modes on the equipped ring at the A35 Brebemi ‘Arena del Futuro’ site – with highly positive results – we seized the opportunity to prepare a new eDaily equipped with the DWPT system. Our ambitious goal is to extend static charging functionality to compatible public sites,” says Marco Aimo-Boot, vehicle electrification – T&D innovation and advanced engineering, Iveco Group.

The project comes as global interest in DWPT technology grows. France has inaugurated what is reported to be the world’s first highway section with dynamic wireless charging, while the United States has launched public-road inductive charging tests, most recently in Florida.

“Testing DWPT directly on the highway further demonstrates how dynamic charging can effectively support daily operational needs, ensuring safety, performance, and service continuity for drivers and operators,” says Norberto Codegone, head of LCV product management at Iveco . “Our project with A35 Brebemi opens new perspectives for electrification in the sector.”

No technical specifications for the wireless charging system’s power output or charging rates were disclosed.
