Electrogenic, an Oxford, UK-based EV powertrain specialist, has acquired TREMEC Electric GT, gaining a permanent US base in Huntington Beach, California. The deal combines TREMEC’s turn-key powertrain hardware with Electrogenic’s software and control systems, expanding North American manufacturing, service and partner-installer support for electric vehicle conversions.
Oxford, UK-based EV technology company Electrogenic has acquired the business of TREMEC Electric GT, the California-based EV powertrain specialist, giving Electrogenic a permanent US base in Huntington Beach, California.
The acquisition, announced on August 10, 2026, establishes a US headquarters for Electrogenic and follows what the company describes as years of sustained growth in the North American market. The move is intended to give Electrogenic’s existing network of North American partner-installers, who sell and install its electric vehicle (EV) conversion kits, local technical support on Pacific Time in addition to GMT.
Founded in 2014, TREMEC Electric GT designs and integrates EV powertrain systems, developing turn-key powertrains for low-volume manufacturers and supplying the aftermarket conversion sector with its e-Crate “swap” systems — packages that electrify vehicles using their existing frame, body, driveline and suspension. The company has previously electrified vehicles including classic Porsches and American muscle cars.
According to Electrogenic, TREMEC Electric GT’s growth had been limited by its need for vehicle software and control systems to complement its powertrains, an area in which Electrogenic specializes. Electrogenic and TREMEC plan to collaborate on next-generation EV powertrain development and manufacturing, and Electrogenic said the deal adds a technical center of expertise on the US West Coast.
Steve Drummond, chief executive of Electrogenic, said: “We are proud to announce the latest stage in our US expansion with this acquisition. It’s an exciting business underpinned by a talented and like-minded team. The USA is our most important market and we wanted to provide additional support to our U.S. partners, as well as establishing a strategic base in California as part of our ongoing software-defined vehicle (SDV) software development programme.”
He added: “It will enable us to accelerate new products, extend our manufacturing options and further elevate our service offering for new and existing customers across North America.”
Drummond also said: “The teams have been working together for some time and the acquisition seemed a natural evolution for both TREMEC, Electrogenic and the Huntington Beach team… Electrogenic and TREMEC will continue to explore future mutual opportunities in advanced technology and manufacturing.”
Electrogenic supplies EV powertrain technology for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), defense applications and classic car conversions, including “drop-in” kits for vehicles such as the Land Rover Defender, classic Porsche 911s and Jaguar E-Types. Bespoke conversion work will now be carried out at both its Oxford headquarters and the Huntington Beach site.
