Kia has launched the EV5, a mid-size electric SUV designed to appeal to millennial families and broaden the automaker’s presence in the global EV market. The vehicle enters the market as part of Kia’s strategy to expand its electric lineup beyond the existing EV6, EV9, and EV3 models.
“We have built the EV5 to appeal to a broad range of potential needs, with a particular focus on the diverse lifestyles of millennial customers,” said Ho Sung Song, President and CEO at Kia Corporation. “The EV5 delivers the comfort of a ‘home away from home’ combined with advanced connectivity and a dynamic driving experience, offering young families an ideal solution tailored to their lifestyles.”
Built on Kia’s E-GMP electric platform, the EV5 features an 81.4kWh battery paired with a 160kW front-mounted electric motor. The vehicle offers a maximum WLTP range of 329 miles on a single charge and supports fast charging from 10 to 80 percent in 30 minutes. The SUV measures 4,610mm in length and 1,875mm in width.
The exterior design incorporates Kia’s digital tiger face with three-dimensional Star Map daytime running lights. The vehicle is available with 18-inch and 19-inch wheel options. Inside, the EV5 provides a three-zone climate control system and a wide centre console accessible from both front and rear seats. The second-row seats fold flat to connect with the cargo area, creating additional storage space.
The dashboard features a panoramic display combining a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, and a five-inch climate control panel. The vehicle’s connected car Navigation Cockpit system includes over-the-air update capability and access to the Kia Connect Store for additional features.
Driver assistance features include Highway Driving Assist 2.0 and Remote Smart Parking Assist 2.0. The vehicle also offers an i-Pedal 3.0 system for regenerative braking and one-pedal driving. An optional feature called Pet Mode maintains interior temperature for animals left in the vehicle.
The EV5 will launch in Korea and Europe in the second half of this year, with Canadian sales beginning in early 2026. Kia has not announced pricing or US availability. The vehicle joins a growing roster of electric models as the automaker works toward expanding zero-emission vehicle adoption across international markets.
