Genesis debuted its first full-size flagship SUV, the GV90, on August 19 in San Francisco. Available as the standard GV90 or the coach-door GV90 Neolun, it features a 123.5kWh battery, roughly 500km range, 490kW combined motor output, a first-of-its-kind roof airbag, and Hyundai Motor Group’s new Pleos Connect infotainment platform.
Genesis unveiled the GV90, its first full-size flagship sport utility vehicle (SUV), at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, California, on August 19.
The production model, based on the Neolun concept first shown in 2024, is available in two variants: the GV90 Neolun, which features hidden B-pillar coach doors, and a standard GV90 with conventional swing doors.
The GV90 Neolun’s doors, called the Neolun Arch Gate, open independently so the front and rear doors face each other, using a dual-motion hinge mechanism that slides the rear door outward before rotating it open. Genesis said the design maintains crash safety equivalent to vehicles with a conventional B-pillar through dual steel beams and a reinforced roll cage 1.5 times thicker than in conventional vehicles.
Both variants are built on the eMP platform, which Genesis said is exclusive to its flagship models. The vehicle is fitted with a 123.5 kilowatt-hour high-voltage battery, which the company said is the largest capacity in Hyundai Motor Group’s electric vehicle lineup. Genesis said the seven-seat GV90 achieves an estimated range of approximately 500km on a single charge, based on internal research and development testing; independent range certification, such as EPA or WLTP figures, has not yet been published.
On a 350-kilowatt fast charger, the battery can charge from 10% to 80% in 22 minutes, according to Genesis.
The front and rear motors produce a combined maximum output of 490 kilowatts and 800 Newton-meters of torque, split as 240kW/350Nm at the front and 250kW/450Nm at the rear. The GV90 is also the first Hyundai Motor Group vehicle fitted with a dual electronic limited-slip differential, alongside multi-chamber air suspension and rear-wheel steering that can turn the rear wheels up to five degrees.
Safety features include 12 airbags, among them what Genesis described as the industry’s first roof airbag, designed to deploy across the roof glass in a rollover to prevent occupant ejection.
“GV90 is not simply a new vehicle, but a new vision for luxury mobility that brings together inspiring design, AI-powered software and connectivity, and industry-leading safety,” said Euisun Chung, executive chair of Hyundai Motor Group.
The cabin includes a New Power Control System that starts the vehicle via the brake pedal rather than an ignition button, a pop-up center OLED display that extends from 23.6 inches to 24.6 inches, and a 25-inch head-up display. Infotainment runs on Pleos Connect, Hyundai Motor Group’s platform based on Android Automotive OS, paired with a generative AI voice agent called Gleo AI.
“Today marks a landmark arrival for Genesis and for the future of luxury mobility,” said José Muñoz, president and chief executive of Hyundai Motor Company. “In less than eight years, Genesis became the fastest luxury brand ever to reach one million sales, built on distinctive design, class-leading innovation, and a relentless focus on our customers.”
The GV90 measures 5,285mm long, 2,030mm wide, with a 3,245mm wheelbase, and rides on 24-inch forged wheels. That length puts it ahead of Hyundai Motor Group siblings the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 9, and industry title Autocar reports the GV90 will be the largest electric vehicle on sale in Europe once it arrives there. Genesis is expected to launch the GV90 in South Korea in September, followed by a European debut in the first half of 2027, according to Autocar India.
Genesis also unveiled a GV90 Neolun First Edition, a four-seat Executive Suite variant with wool cashmere trim and exclusive badging, offered in three exterior and interior color combinations.
“Inspired by the Korean moon jar, we pursued a purity shaped by restraint, balance and an elegance that never fades,” said Luc Donckerwolke, president and chief creative officer of Hyundai Motor Group.
