Featuring the M Hybrid system, the BMW M5 achieves a combined output of 727 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque.

BMW has announced the launch of its seventh-generation M5, marking a new era for the high-performance saloon. Set to debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July 2024, the latest iteration of the M5 introduces a hybrid powertrain for the first time in its 40-year history.

The new BMW M5 boasts an impressive M Hybrid system, combining a high-revving 4.4-liter V8 engine with an electric motor. This powerful combination delivers a maximum output of 727 hp and a peak torque of 1,000 Nm, enabling the car to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.5 seconds.

“We’ve pushed the boundaries of what’s possible in a high-performance saloon,” said BMW M GmbH CEO, Franciscus van Meel. “The new M5 represents a perfect blend of raw power and cutting-edge electrification, setting a new benchmark in the segment.”

The exterior design of the new M5 features prominent wheel arch and side skirt extensions, a sculptural front apron, and model-specific surfacing around the C-pillar. These elements contribute to a more athletic appearance, clearly differentiating it from the standard BMW 5 Series Saloon.

Inside, the M5 offers a luxurious interior enhanced with M-specific features. The car comes equipped with a new flat-bottomed M leather steering wheel, M multifunction seats, and the BMW Curved Display with M-specific content.

BMW has also made significant advancements in the car’s electric capabilities. The M5 can travel up to 43 miles on electric power alone, setting a new standard for electric range in its class.

“Our goal was to create a vehicle that excels in both performance and efficiency,” explained Hans Zimmer, Head of Powertrain Development at BMW M. “The ability to cover substantial distances on pure electric power, combined with the exhilarating performance of the V8 engine, makes the new M5 a truly versatile driving machine.”

The new BMW M5 is scheduled to begin production at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing in July 2024, with first UK customer deliveries expected from November 2024. Pricing starts at £110,500, excluding on-the-road costs.
