Renault has announced updates to its SUV lineup for the 2026 model year, introducing a more powerful full hybrid powertrain for the Captur and Symbioz models, along with enhanced standard equipment and a new mild hybrid engine option.
The centerpiece of the updates is the E-Tech 160 full hybrid powertrain, which replaces the previous 145 horsepower engine in both the Captur and Symbioz. The new system features a larger 1.8-liter petrol engine paired with an increased battery capacity of 1.4 kWh, up from the previous 1.26 kWh unit.
Performance improvements include a reduction of over one second in the 0-62 mph acceleration time, while fuel efficiency gains of approximately 5 percent and CO2 emissions of 97 grams per kilometer help the engine meet EU7 compliance standards. The larger battery provides more opportunities for electric-only operation, contributing to quieter operation and reduced fuel consumption.
The updated powertrain includes enhancements to Renault’s multi-mode transmission system, featuring smoother gear changes and an additional mode designed for motorway driving that reduces noise levels and improves responsiveness. All trim levels now include an electronic shifter as standard equipment.
Towing capacity has increased from 750 kilograms to 1,000 kilograms with the new powertrain. The Captur E-Tech 160 starts at £25,195, while the Symbioz E-Tech 160 begins at £29,795.
Renault has also introduced a mild hybrid 140 engine option for the Symbioz, available exclusively with the Techno trim level. The 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with mild hybrid technology achieves 47.9 mpg on the WLTP combined cycle and produces 133 grams per kilometer of CO2 emissions. This entry-level variant is priced from £27,395.
Driver assistance systems have been upgraded across the Captur range, with electric parking brake and auto-hold now standard on all trim levels. Adaptive cruise control with speed limiter becomes standard on Techno trim and above for hybrid models, automatically maintaining safe following distances and adjusting speed as needed.
The range-topping Esprit Alpine trim receives additional safety features including lane centering assistance, occupant safe exit warning, blind spot recognition, rear detection with emergency lane keeping assist, and rear cross traffic alerts. A new child locking function for rear doors and windows is also included on this trim level.
The updates reflect Renault’s continued focus on electrification and safety technology across its SUV range, with the hybrid powertrains supporting the company’s transition toward zero-emission mobility while maintaining practical performance for everyday driving conditions.
Both updated models will be available through Renault dealers, with deliveries expected to begin later this year as part of the 2026 model year rollout.
