BYD unveils ATTO 2 compact electric SUV for European market

According to BYD the Atto 2 Compact SUV mixes versatility with intelligent technologies

Chinese automaker BYD introduced its new compact electric SUV, the Atto 2, at the Brussels Motor Show this week, expanding its European lineup with an urban-focused vehicle that incorporates the company’s latest battery technology.

The Atto 2 measures 4,310mm in length, making it 145mm shorter than the existing Atto 3 model, while maintaining a 2,620mm wheelbase. The vehicle features BYD’s proprietary cell-to-body construction, integrating the battery pack directly into the vehicle chassis – a first for the compact SUV segment.

“We’re excited to start 2025 with another important model for our plans in Europe,” said BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li. “The B-segment SUV class is incredibly popular here, and with the Atto 2, we have an agile and versatile offering that will appeal to that large potential customer base.”

The vehicle launches with a 45.1 kWh Blade Battery offering a WLTP combined range of 312km, powered by a front-mounted 130 kW motor. A version with a larger battery capacity is planned for future release.

The Blade Battery utilizes lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology, which BYD says provides improved safety and durability compared to conventional lithium-ion batteries, while eliminating the need for cobalt and nickel.

Interior features include a panoramic glass roof and a flat floor design enabled by the e-Platform 3.0 architecture. The cargo area offers 400 liters of space, expandable to 1,340 liters with folded rear seats.

The Atto 2 will be available in four colors: standard Climbing Grey, plus optional Hiking Green, Skiing White, and Cosmos Black. Full specifications and pricing details will be announced in February to coincide with the vehicle’s European launch.

The introduction of the Atto 2 marks BYD’s latest step in expanding its presence in the European EV market, where it aims to compete in the growing compact electric SUV segment.
