Changan will launch a plug-in hybrid DEEPAL S05 SUV in the UK from September 2026, debuting its new Ultra-Hybrid technology. It pairs a 172kW electric motor with a 1.5-litre petrol engine for 190kW total, an 18.4kWh LFP battery, 62-mile electric range, 55kW fast charging and standard Vehicle-to-Load.
Changan will add a plug-in hybrid version of its Deepal S05 SUV to its UK range from September 2026, with pre-orders opening over the summer. The model is the first to use the company’s new Ultra-Hybrid technology.
The Deepal S05 PHEV, a C-segment SUV, pairs a 172kW permanent-magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) with a 63kW 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine for a total system output of 190kW. The electric motor draws on an 18.4kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery offering a pure-electric range of 62 miles and a total range exceeding 621 miles.
The battery charges at up to 11kW AC and supports DC fast charging at up to 55kW as standard. A Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function is also fitted as standard. The system is based on Changan’s BlueCore platform, developed with input from the company’s research and development centre in Birmingham, where Changan is headquartered in the UK.
According to Nic Thomas, managing director at Changan UK, the powertrain is designed to remove trade-offs for buyers moving to electrified driving.
“We believe drivers shouldn’t have to compromise when looking to drive electric. The Deepal S05 PHEV offers the range, efficiency and flexibility people actually need, whether they’re in the city or further afield, all in a high-quality SUV designed for real life,” Thomas says.
“It’s about giving customers more choice, more capability and better value all within a sophisticated SUV that feels premium. We look forward to introducing this to our UK line-up over the summer.”
On the combined WLTP cycle, the Deepal S05 PHEV records fuel consumption of 2.0 litres per 100km, rising to 5.4 litres per 100km with a depleted battery. Weighted combined CO₂ emissions are 47g/km, placing it in CO₂ class B, or class C with a discharged battery.
The PHEV joins existing rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive battery-electric S05 variants, which offer all-electric ranges of 301 and 277 miles respectively. It will be offered in Pro and Max trims.
The model comes with a seven-year or 100,000-mile vehicle warranty, alongside an eight-year or 124,000-mile warranty covering the vehicle’s three electrical systems.
The Deepal S05 PHEV will launch first in selected European markets ahead of the UK, with customer deliveries expected to begin in September. Full UK pricing and specification remain to be confirmed.
