ABB reveals 350kW high-power car charging technology

In response to the growing demand for powerful and efficient vehicle charging stations, ABB has revealed its latest EV charging solution, the Terra HP – the first 350kW product to hit the market. The company cites a charging time of eight minutes to generate a range of 200km.

ABB suggests that technology could be used at highway rest stops and filling stations, and the Terra has the capacity to charge 400V and 800V vehicles at full power.

The application of the company’s Dynamic DC power-sharing technology also makes it possible to charge two vehicles simultaneously at up to 350kW – from a two-power cabinet system.

“We are committed to supporting the expansion of electric vehicle charging systems across the globe to drive cleaner environments,” said Frank Muehlon, head of ABB’s global business for electric vehicle charging.

“Creating innovative state-of-the-art and energy efficient solutions which are scalable to expand and flex with our customers’ needs is at the heart of ABB’s philosophy.”

Terra HP features power and communications redundancies, and individually cooled charging cables. Previous applications with electric bus installations have also enabled ABB to develop a system with high levels of reliability.
