DAF expands EV lineup with XG and XG+ models for long-haul transport

The DAF XG and XG+ Electric can be fitted with 3 to 5 battery packs, with modular positioning on the chassis, depending on the vehicle’s application.

DAF has introduced the XG and XG+ Electric trucks, featuring spacious 12.5 cubic meter cabs, battery configurations enabling over 500 kilometers per charge, and powerful PACCAR EX D2 electric motors. The vehicles target long-haul applications with daily ranges exceeding 1,000 kilometers.

DAF has introduced two new electric truck models, the XG and XG+ Electric, expanding its battery-powered commercial vehicle portfolio. The launches build on technology from the XD and XF Electric models, which received the International Truck of the Year 2026 award for their powertrains, lithium iron phosphate battery technology, and driver comfort features.

The new models are designed for long-haul applications and feature the largest cabs currently available in the commercial truck market. The cab dimensions extend 33 centimeters beyond the XF model, creating a total interior volume of 12.5 cubic meters with standing heights reaching 2.2 meters. Sleeping berths measure 80 centimeters in width throughout their full length.

Both vehicles use the PACCAR EX D2 electric motor, delivering power outputs between 270 and 350 kilowatts, equivalent to 370 to 480 horsepower, with torque rated at 2,400 newton meters. The powertrain combines two electric motors with a three-speed integrated transmission designed to provide smooth gear transitions.

The trucks accommodate three to five modular battery packs positioned along the chassis according to operational requirements. The maximum five-pack configuration enables ranges exceeding 500 kilometers on a single charge. DAF states that with appropriate route and charging planning, the vehicles can complete over 1,000 kilometers daily, making them suitable for international transport operations.

Range performance results from the efficient powertrain design, battery management systems, and aerodynamic features. The cab design incorporates a tapered profile with curved windscreen, side skirts, deflectors, and digital cameras replacing traditional mirrors to reduce air resistance.

DAF equips both models with lithium iron phosphate batteries, which contain no cobalt or nickel and carry an eight-year warranty. The battery chemistry provides thermal stability and supports daily charging to full capacity without degrading longevity. A three-pack configuration charges from 10 percent to 80 percent capacity in approximately 45 minutes.

The manufacturer offers supporting infrastructure including PACCAR Power Solutions charging stations, DAF MultiSupport maintenance contracts, PACCAR Connect fleet management services, and PACCAR Financial financing options. The XG and XG+ Electric are available as 4×2 tractor units and 6×2 rigid chassis configurations with steered trailing axles.
