Aptera Motors has successfully completed the first drive of its production-intent solar electric vehicle (sEV), marking a significant milestone in the company’s development process. The vehicle represents a critical step in validating the company’s innovative design and technology.

The test drive incorporated Aptera’s recently adopted Vitesco Technologies EMR3 drivetrain and proprietary battery pack, demonstrating the integration of key components developed in-house. This marks the first time the company’s production composite body structure—dubbed Body in Carbon (BinC)—has been powered by its custom drivetrain and battery system.

“Driving our first production-intent vehicle marks an extraordinary moment in Aptera’s journey,” said Steve Fambro, Aptera’s Co-Founder & Co-CEO. “It demonstrates real progress toward delivering a vehicle that redefines efficiency, sustainability, and energy independence.”

The vehicle is the first in a series designed to rigorously test critical performance metrics, including range, solar charging capability, and overall efficiency. Aptera plans to continue evolving the production-intent models by integrating and testing additional components.

Upcoming validation phases will focus on several key areas. The next round of testing will integrate Aptera’s solar technology, production-intent thermal management system, and exterior surfaces. High-speed track testing will follow, aimed at confirming performance characteristics such as energy consumption, solar charging rates, and estimated battery range.

With nearly 50,000 pre-order reservations, the company is moving closer to its goal of bringing a unique solar electric vehicle to market. The successful first drive signals significant progress in Aptera’s ambitious approach to creating an energy-independent electric vehicle.

The company continues to refine its design, with each test bringing it closer to full production readiness.
