Volvo Trucks has introduced a 14-tonne variant of its FL Electric medium-duty truck, designed for urban delivery operations. The entry-level model features configurable battery options and compact dimensions, allowing customers to optimize payload capacity and profitability for city transport applications.
Volvo Trucks has expanded its EV lineup with a new 14-tonne variant of the FL Electric, positioning the medium-duty truck as an entry-level option for urban delivery operations. The model features a redesigned battery configuration aimed at optimizing payload capacity while maintaining zero tailpipe emissions for city environments.
The FL Electric was among Volvo’s earliest models to adopt all-electric powertrains and has gained traction with transport companies operating in urban areas. Its compact design facilitates navigation through narrow city streets for door-to-door deliveries, while the electric drivetrain minimizes operational noise.
The new 14-tonne gross combination weight variant represents Volvo’s effort to provide more accessible electric options across different transport segments. Jan Hjelmgren, head of product management at Volvo Trucks, emphasized the practical approach behind the offering. “This is a perfect inner-city workhorse with no tailpipe emissions,” Hjelmgren said. “We are always there to help our customers find the best electric truck for their business. You should only buy as much battery capacity as you need for the task to maximize the productivity in terms of payload capacity and profitability.”
The vehicle is available in multiple wheelbases, axle configurations, and battery options, enabling customers to customize specifications according to operational requirements. Battery placement has been engineered to avoid interference with bodybuilding installations on the frame. The model can also be configured with a width as narrow as 2.4 meters, enhancing maneuverability in confined urban spaces.
The battery systems introduced with this model are compatible across Volvo’s electric truck range, from the 14-tonne FL Electric through 16-tonne and 18-tonne FL Electric variants, extending to FE Electric models with gross combination weights reaching 26 tonnes.
Volvo’s FL and FE electric trucks have been commercially available since 2019, with distribution across European, Middle Eastern, African, Asian, and Australian markets. The company currently manufactures eight battery-electric truck models and has delivered more than 5,700 electric trucks worldwide.
The 14-tonne FL Electric is now available for order, with deliveries expected to commence in accordance with Volvo’s standard production schedules for electric vehicle configurations.
