Kia introduced GT performance versions of its EV3, EV4, and EV5 models at Brussels Motor Show. The EV3 GT and EV4 GT feature 215kW dual-motor AWD systems, while the EV5 GT offers 225kW, all including GT-specific suspension tuning, performance tires, and exclusive drive modes.
The choices in Kia’s EV3, EV4 and EV5 ranges have been increased after the Korean manufacturer unveiled GT versions of all three models in Brussels.
All three models benefit from dynamic hardware updates and ‘intelligent, software-driven features to deliver driving excitement’, says Kia. It adds that one of the goals behind the range expansion is to ensure that the GT brand continues to stand for ‘dynamism, emotional driving and sporty character’.
To help achieve that there are drive modes that are exclusive to GT models, electronically controlled chassis systems, digital lighting, personalized interfaces and performance-themed soundscapes. These enhancements across the board aim to provide ‘an experience designed for performance, as well as everyday engagement, comfort, and emotional connection’, say the Koreans.
“Our new electric Kia GT models prove that electrification can be emotional and resolute,” commented Soohang Chang, president and CEO, Kia Europe. “The EV3 GT, EV4 GT and EV5 GT will deliver an engaging, confidence-inspiring drive, combining the instant responsiveness of electric power with sporty character and all-purpose capability. These GTs are crafted for those who seek the best of both worlds: excitement while embracing a future of responsible mobility.
In the EV3 GT and EV4 GT – which are built on a common platform that covers hatchback and fastback designs – a 215kW dual-motor AWD system is deployed. This unit features 145kW of power in the front and 70kW in the rear and runs alongside an 81.4kWh battery. An electronically controlled suspension with GT-specific tuning, improved cornering stability and 20-inch alloy wheels with performance-oriented tires are also introduced.
The dedicated GT drive mode in both models concentrates on more focus in elements such as power delivery, steering response, suspension. There are also improvements in vehicle displays to deliver a more immersive driving character. To heighten driver engagement, both models feature Virtual Gear Shift (VGS) and active sound design.
The introduction of the EV5 GT sees Kia’s uprated performance technology offered in the C-SUV segment. Combining versatility and performance in this class is something that Kia believes will appeal to a lot of its drivers and has ensured that the EV5 GT hits the targets in both respects.
Drivers will benefit from a 225kW dual-motor AWD powertrain in the EV5 GT. That means enhanced power and torque and a GT-specific chassis configuration, which includes electronically controlled suspension with road preview system. Sporty tires – 255/45R20, Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUVs – complete the look at enhanced technical spec.
Away from the all-important powertrain and performance-related attributes, Kia has enhanced other areas of the EV5 to ensure it fits the GT bill. Among the design elements that further differentiate the EV5 GT from its standard sibling are GT-exclusive exterior details, dedicated semi bucket sport seats, and ambient lights linked to GT drive modes.
