Coca-Cola’s ‘Christmas holiday’ truck goes fully electric

The Coca-Cola truck recognizable from the brand’s famous Christmas commercials has been turned fully electric for the first time as it embarks on a real-life tour.

In a partnership between technology company ABB, Coca-Cola and Volvo Trucks, Santa will take to the streets of Italy to spread Christmas cheer but now – for the first time – in a state-of-the-art all-electric truck.

In a demonstration of the potential for sustainable electric travel, Santa’s tour will see him travel 1,300kms from the north to the south of Italy. He will make stops at ABB facilities along the way to recharge, using a variety of ABB charging stations from DC wallboxes to high power chargers – all of which supply energy from 100 percent renewable sources.

Frank Muehlon, president of ABB’s E-mobility division comments: “As our impact on the environment comes under sharper focus, it is incredibly important that we all do our bit to cut emissions. It is fantastic to see that even Santa has gotten the ‘sustainability memo’ and is taking steps to reduce his own carbon footprint.

This is a powerful demonstration of the capabilities of next-generation electric vehicle charging technology, which will help Santa to spread festive cheer across Italy in a sustainable way”.
