Alpine unveils dedicated EV sportscar platform with 800V cell-to-pack battery

Alpine is expanding its lineup and developing a dedicated 800V EV sportscar platform, the Alpine Performance Platform.

Alpine has confirmed development of the Alpine Performance Platform (APP), a dedicated 800V aluminum EV sportscar architecture featuring cell-to-pack batteries, a dual rear electric motor with SiC inverter, and active torque vectoring. The platform will underpin coupe, spider and 2+2 body styles, manufactured at Alpine’s Dieppe factory in France.

Alpine has confirmed development of a dedicated electric vehicle sportscar platform, the Alpine Performance Platform (APP), which will underpin a new generation of EV sports cars in coupe, spider and 2+2 body styles.

The French sports car maker, part of the Renault Group, says the APP addresses key technical challenges around weight, packaging and electrification. It features an advanced aluminum architecture using bonded and riveted construction to balance structural rigidity with low mass.

To preserve a 40/60 front-to-rear weight distribution, the platform houses two battery packs positioned to maintain what Alpine describes as the A110’s sporty silhouette. The APP adopts an 800V cell-to-pack battery configuration with high energy density cells, which the company says will reduce both weight and charging times compared with conventional approaches.

A new rear-mounted dual electric motor 3-in-1 e-axle sits at the heart of the drivetrain, incorporating a silicon carbide (SiC) inverter for what Alpine describes as ultrafast torque control. The platform also features two new fully aluminum suspension designs, along with integrated braking and steering systems.

Central to the driving dynamics is Alpine Active Torque Vectoring (AATV), a system capable of distributing different torque levels to the left and right rear wheels every 10 milliseconds. The company says this delivers a lightweight driving feel despite the inherent mass of an EV powertrain. A Formula 1-inspired driving position places the driver low in the cabin with a vertical steering wheel and key instruments within direct line of sight.

Overseeing the platform’s electronic systems is the Alpine Dynamic Model (ADM) electronic control unit, which integrates battery management, e-motor control, braking, steering and active aerodynamics into a single system.

“Our ambition is to become the leading French sports speciality brand in the world, offering the best driver’s cars of the EV era. We will do this by constantly embracing new technologies and bonding them with Alpine’s DNA,” says Philippe Krief, chief executive officer of the Alpine brand.

“Just as today the Alpine A110 is the foundation of our brand, showcasing our commitment to deliver high-technology products, we will offer the first true EV sportscar to the market. It will be true to Alpine’s DNA and outperform the best of today’s combustion sports cars, thanks to the Alpine Performance Platform,” Krief adds.

The next-generation A110, which will be the first model built on the APP, will be developed and manufactured at the Manufacture Alpine Dieppe Jean Rédélé in France — the same facility where the current A110 has been produced since the brand’s relaunch in 2017. Alpine confirmed coupe, spider and 2+2 variants will follow in the coming years but did not disclose specific launch dates or performance figures.
