Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has launched a new 58kWh battery for the ID. Buzz Cargo, extending range to 218 miles and boosting power to 190PS. The update adds vehicle-to-load technology and ID 6.0 infotainment software, with prices from £29,995 – a £5,655 saving versus the outgoing 59kWh model.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has introduced a new 58kWh battery for its all-electric ID. Buzz Cargo van, extending range and increasing power over the outgoing 59kWh variant.
The new battery, which replaces the 59kWh unit, increases the vehicle’s all-electric range by 17 miles to 218 miles on a single charge, while power rises from 170PS to 190PS. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, based in Milton Keynes, UK, says the improvements come from efficiency gains in the battery cells.
Prices for the 58kWh model start at £29,995 (excluding VAT), representing a saving of £5,655 compared with the outgoing 59kWh version. The van also qualifies for the UK government’s Plug-in Van Grant (PiVG), offering a further £5,000 reduction.
Alongside the new battery, the entire ID. Buzz Cargo range now includes vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology, letting drivers power external equipment directly from the vehicle. The system provides a continuous 2.0kW supply, with a peak output of 3.6kW at 16A/240V, through a three-pin socket located in the rear loadspace within reach of the rear and side doors.
Volkswagen has also updated the van’s infotainment system with new ID 6.0 software, adding an integrated app store that lets drivers download and activate services such as streaming, parking and charging from within the vehicle. The update introduces Connected Travel Assist, a system that uses online data to detect traffic lights and can bring the vehicle to a stop when it identifies a red signal.
Finance options for the 58kWh model start from £239 per month on Contract Hire. An example package, based on a two-year, 5,000-mile-per-annum non-maintained Contract Hire agreement for the ID. Buzz Cargo Commerce 58kWh, comprises 23 monthly rentals of £239, a customer initial rental of £2,151 and the £5,000 government grant.
According to Dale Piper, ID. Buzz product manager at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, the ID. Buzz Cargo has “had its practicality and performance enhanced” with this round of upgrades. “The extended range and power will allow our customers to go further and do more, while the host of updates including vehicle-to-load function support everyday convenience on the road,” he says.
