Small Sports Car Company launches China-built SC01 in the UK

The SC01's compact, mid-engined proportions are designed to echo classic British sports car layouts.

Small Sports Car Company, a UK start-up, is bringing the SC01 – a Chinese-built lightweight electric sportscar – to Britain. The mid-engined, dual-motor AWD car produces 429 bhp, weighs 1,365 kg, and does 0-62 mph in about 2.9 seconds. UK demonstration units arrive Q4 2026; customer deliveries begin April 2027.

The Small Sports Car Company (SSCC), a British start-up, has announced its first product for the UK market: the SC01, a lightweight electric sportscar developed in China.

The company says the SC01 was engineered in China but designed to reflect Britain’s sporting automotive heritage, drawing on a lightweight philosophy the company associates with British motorsport engineering.

The SC01 has mid-engined sports car proportions, built on a steel spaceframe chassis with lightweight body construction. It features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain producing 429 bhp (320 kW), a curb weight of 1,365 kg, and double wishbone suspension. SSCC says the car accelerates from 0-62 mph in approximately 2.9 seconds and has a range of 500 km on the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC).

Feng Xiaotong, who created the SC01, says the car reflects a personal admiration for earlier British sports car design.

“My ambition is to create the kind of sports car that enthusiasts will fall in love with,” Feng says. “I am myself such an enthusiast, and grew up admiring the great British pioneers who believed that driving should be about lightness, simplicity and the connection between driver and machine. The SC01 is my tribute to that philosophy.”

According to Mark Cotton, chief executive at Small Sports Car Company, the SC01 is built around driving feel rather than added technology.

“The SC01 is a back-to-basics driver’s car for the electrified generation with the promise to reignite everything enthusiasts love about driving,” Cotton says. “Less mass, more drive, and no driver interference systems – the SC01 is compact, lightweight and engineered around driving enjoyment – rather than technology for technology’s sake. It’s lightweight chassis, carefully tuned suspension and direct steering deliver a pure connection between driver, machine and road.”

SSCC says demonstration and evaluation vehicles will arrive in the UK during the fourth quarter of 2026, with engineering, validation and customer demonstration programs to follow. Right-hand-drive production vehicles are scheduled for customer delivery from April 2027. Pricing and further specifications have not yet been announced.
