Nexperia and Polar Semiconductor partner on US power MOSFET production, targeting EV and automotive supply chain resilience from a Minnesota foundry.

Nexperia and Polar Semiconductor have announced a foundry collaboration to manufacture next-generation power MOSFETs at Polar’s IATF 16949-certified facility in Bloomington, Minnesota. The partnership prioritizes automotive and EV supply chain resilience, with Nexperia developing MOSFETs across multiple voltage classes for power electronics applications in electric vehicles and industrial systems.

Nexperia B.V., headquartered in Nijmegen, Netherlands, and Polar Semiconductor, LLC of Bloomington, Minnesota, have announced a foundry collaboration to manufacture next-generation power metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) devices at Polar’s US-based wafer fabrication facility, with automotive and electric vehicle (EV) applications at the core of the partnership.

Polar’s Minnesota facility holds IATF 16949 certification and has more than 25 years of automotive production heritage, with the company describing zero-defect manufacturing as central to its operations. Under the collaboration, Nexperia is developing a portfolio of next-generation power MOSFETs spanning multiple voltage classes and package types. The company’s existing automotive-grade power MOSFET packaging includes copper-clip solutions such as LFPAK and CCPAK, as well as the MLPAK package, all designed to meet the thermal and electrical performance demands of automotive power electronics.

Stefan Tilger, interim chief executive of Nexperia, frames the deal explicitly as a supply chain security measure. “This collaboration is an important step in strengthening Nexperia’s long-term manufacturing and supply-chain strategy,” he says. “By working closely with Polar Semiconductor, we are securing reliable capacity, and providing our customers with a strong, stable, and resilient supply foundation to support future growth.”

“Investing in future technologies and expanding our power MOSFET portfolio are central to Nexperia’s strategy,” says Fredrik Öberg, general manager of the MOS business group at Nexperia. “Our MOSFETs are recognized for their industry leading quality and reliability, and we are pleased to collaborate with Polar Semiconductor, a partner that shares our unwavering commitment to zero-defect manufacturing and advanced power-device production.”

Reza Kazerounian, executive chairman of Polar Semiconductor, says the partnership reflects the company’s focus as a specialist power foundry. “Partnering with Nexperia — one of the world’s leading power semiconductor companies — to bring their power MOSFET roadmap to market underscores the strength of our strategy and the progress we’ve made through targeted investment,” he says.

Nexperia ships more than 100 billion components annually and employs over 12,500 people across Europe, Asia, and the United States. Polar’s process capabilities extend across bipolar-CMOS-DMOS (BCD), BiCMOS, MOSFET, insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT), microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), and wide-bandgap (GaN) technologies. The company is currently expanding capacity at its Minnesota facility. The partnership also targets industrial, AI server infrastructure, and robotics applications.
