Polestar has announced four new electric vehicles due by 2028: the Polestar 5 GT, a new Polestar 4 variant, a next-generation Polestar 2, and the compact Polestar 7 SUV. The company also forecasts low double-digit retail volume growth in 2026.
Swedish electric vehicle maker Polestar has announced plans to bring four new models to market by 2028, alongside a forecast of low double-digit retail volume growth in 2026 and a 30% expansion of its retail network.
The Gothenburg-based automaker — listed on the Nasdaq as PSNY – says the lineup will target high-demand segments including the compact battery electric vehicle (BEV) segment, the grand tourer market, and the estate-SUV crossover space.
“Following our best sales year ever, we are now launching the largest model offensive in our history, with four premium EVs coming to market within three years,” says Michael Lohscheller, chief executive at Polestar. “We are targeting the heart of the EV market, where customer demand and profit pools are high. Combined with our continued retail sales network expansion and a growing customer base, we are setting the foundations for profitable growth and operational improvement.”
The four models are:
Polestar 5 — a four-door grand tourer (GT) built on a lightweight bonded aluminum platform, already presented in 2025 and currently on a launch tour across Europe. Deliveries are expected from summer 2026. “Polestar 5 is our brand halo car, bringing a new level of performance and luxury to the grand-tourer segment,” Lohscheller says, adding that early press reviews have been positive.
Polestar 4 new variant — a new body style based on the existing Polestar 4 platform, described by Lohscheller as combining estate-car space with SUV versatility and Polestar’s performance character. The variant is due to launch later in 2025, with deliveries expected in the fourth quarter of 2026. “With this car, Polestar will once again set new standards,” he says. “Sweden is famous for its estate cars, and its SUVs are world-class.”
Polestar 2 next generation — a fully new successor to the sedan that established the brand. Polestar says over 190,000 units of the current model have been sold. A launch is planned for early 2027. “Bringing the next generation of this iconic car in record speed, by the start of next year, is very exciting,” Lohscheller notes. “The car that we became known for will play a key role of our future success.”
Polestar 7 — a compact premium BEV SUV planned for launch in 2028, to be built in Europe. Lohscheller says the compact SUV segment accounted for approximately one-third of total BEV volumes in Europe in 2025. “We are convinced that we can offer customers a progressive performance-driven car for a very attractive price point,” he adds.
The announcements follow what Polestar describes as its best year for retail sales in 2025, achieved despite what it characterizes as a challenging geopolitical and economic environment. The company says its 2026 sales mix is expected to shift toward a higher proportion of Polestar 4, and that it intends to place greater emphasis on the retail channel.
“With our attractive model line-up, strong shareholder support and partners with access to the latest technology, Polestar is set to become one of the winners of the automotive industry’s transformation,” Lohscheller says.
