Stellantis has unveiled the STLA Frame, a new multi-energy platform designed specifically for full-size pickup trucks, light commercial vehicles, and SUVs. The STLA Frame platform supports multiple propulsion systems, including full battery electric (BEV) and range-extended electric vehicle (REEV) configurations, with potential for future internal combustion, hybrid, and hydrogen options. Its most notable features include a range of up to 690 miles for REEV models and 500 miles for BEV versions, along with a maximum towing capacity of 14,000 pounds and a payload rating of 2,700 pounds.

“With full EV and extended-range EV tech coming soon, we’re bringing ‘no compromise’ solutions to buyers who may be hesitant on trying their first electric vehicle,” said Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares. The platform is built using advanced high-strength steel, featuring a widened center section housing the battery pack and reinforced frame rails for enhanced protection.

The STLA Frame platform supports liquid-cooled battery packs ranging from 159 to over 200 kilowatt-hours, with electric drive modules rated up to 250 kW that can propel a vehicle from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds. Charging capabilities are equally impressive, with BEV configurations supporting 800-volt DC fast charging that can add 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes.

A unique feature of the STLA Frame is its bi-directional charging capability, allowing the vehicle to charge another EV, power a home during emergencies, or feed electricity back to the grid. The platform also offers flexible suspension designs, including air suspension, to optimize ride quality across diverse driving conditions.

The STLA Frame is part of Stellantis’ broader electrification strategy, which includes investing more than €50 billion through 2030. The company aims to achieve a 100% passenger car BEV sales mix in Europe and a 50% BEV sales mix for passenger cars and light-duty trucks in the US by 2030.

Dimensionally, the platform supports vehicles with overall lengths between 216 and 234 inches, widths of 81.2 to 83.6 inches, and ground clearance ranging from 6.6 to 10.3 inches. This flexibility ensures the platform can accommodate various vehicle designs and use cases.

As the third of four global BEV platforms in Stellantis’ lineup, the STLA Frame represents a critical step in the company’s electrification journey, promising to deliver powerful, efficient, and versatile electric vehicles for truck and SUV markets.
