Volkswagen will launch the ID. Tiguan, an all-electric SUV replacing the ID.4 and ID.5, at the beginning of 2027. It will be sold alongside the combustion and plug-in hybrid Tiguan, Volkswagen’s best-selling model worldwide. The world premiere is scheduled for early October, with full technical specifications yet to be announced.
Volkswagen is to launch an all-electric version of its Tiguan sport utility vehicle (SUV). The ID. Tiguan will replace the ID.4 and ID.5 when it reaches markets at the beginning of 2027.
The Wolfsburg, Germany-based automaker says the ID. Tiguan will be offered alongside the existing Tiguan, which remains available with petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The world premiere is scheduled for early October, and until then the vehicle will continue testing under camouflage. Volkswagen currently describes the model as a near-production concept car that is not yet available for sale.

According to Thomas Schäfer, chief executive of the Volkswagen brand, head of Brand Group Core and member of the board of management of Volkswagen AG, the move builds on the Tiguan’s existing customer base. “More than 8.3 million Tiguan vehicles produced demonstrate the strength and trust associated with this model name. The Tiguan represents a versatile, premium vehicle and embodies the essence of True Volkswagen,” he says.
“With the ID. Tiguan, we are carrying this product promise into the electric future. The all-electric model builds on the strengths of the best-seller and offers premium design, generous space, intuitive operation and innovative technologies,” Schäfer explains.
According to the company, the Tiguan is currently the best-selling model worldwide for both the Volkswagen brand and Volkswagen Group. Combined deliveries of the Tiguan and its sister model, the Tayron, exceeded one million units in the past year.
The ID. Tiguan takes over from the ID.4 and its fastback counterpart, the ID.5. More than 950,000 of the two models have been delivered since 2021, and Volkswagen says they rank among its most successful battery-electric vehicle (BEV) model series.
“Together, both models form a strong offering for our customers’ different powertrain preferences,” Schäfer adds.
Volkswagen has not yet released technical details for the ID. Tiguan, such as its platform, battery capacity, range, charging performance or motor output.
